Its finally over.
Watson's group went up to present about implementing 'rooftop recreational spaces'. Watson started the presentation off with a bang, with his loud commanding voice and expressive tones. He already had his natural presentation skills on since the dry run, only that this time round, he was not out of breath and delivered his content well. The transition to Liuhao was smooth, but he tripped up abit in the middle because he forgot his speech, but he managed to catch on after referring to his prompt cards. I thought what Nuri said was very helpful: the content are on the slides, just refer to them as prompts...Anyway, after liuhao was Zheng Kuang, and he was able to present with eye contact and knowledge of his content. Eng wei wrapped up the whole presentation without being too 'army-commander' like. Overall, the whole group improved drastically from the dry run! Its really amazing to see every one improve so much.
The last group up was Team Jabe Joca, comprising Bernadette, Johnny, Caleb and I.
After reviewing my recording, I realised that apart from the fact that I kept smiling and that I was overdoing it on my hand gentures,I noted that my hair was atrociously messy! As such, I tied up the bulk of my hair to neaten it, and also ran through the whole presentation in my head many times, figuring out how I should stand and where my hands should be placed...
I presented on the introduction to our whole recycling project, and I must say, NEVER go to a presentation with just a couple of hours of sleep! My brain sort of jumbled the sequence of slides although I already knew them inside out (from all the rehearsing so I won't appear as childish, and memorizing of slide content)! This situation is not uncommon amongst presenters. I believe that the exhaustion coupled with the butterflies in the stomach made the overall effect worse. I was panicking inside when I realised that I was still unfamiliar with the clicker and flipped the slides backwards instead of forwards. I thought I did poorer as compared to the dry run where I was more relaxed and had more rest beforehand. I stumbled through some of my points and was actually really relieved when Dr Jaidev was really encouraging and nice about it and actually made me feel less shocked at my performance. From this experience, I now know that being well rested, calm and prepared is all one needs to deliver a good speech. Memorizing the script is not a good idea...
Caleb went up next. Despite his sore throat, he managed to be clear and consize, focusing the entire project scope. Johnny presented the case study on Japan, benefits and limitations of our recommendations. From the dry run feedback, he was told not to be so 'crude' with his jokes, so he really toned down and kept reminding himself to be more serious. He did come across as more serious this time, but it seemed as though the class was expecting him to inject more humor into his content. Bernadette gave an excellent closure to the whole presentation with her good use of tones and body language. Overall, I really thought the whole group did very well... we started out with our proposal and the group dynamics were great. I feel really happy to have worked with them for this project, and I would like to thank Bernadette, Johnny and Caleb for this journey and experience. I will also like to thank my dear classmates and tutor for all the critical feedback so we can improve ourselves.
With practice comes perfection...indeed.
I hope that I will be able to put my new found skills into practice for my FYP presentation that is coming up next! Thank you everyone!
Although you did fumbled a little with the slides at the start, you were still very clear, audible and coherent throughout your presentation. Besides, you've answered the questions well during the Q&A!
ReplyDeleteP.S Get some/ample rest before your FYP presentation! You can do it! :D
You did extremely well in the final presentation Cai Fang- keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU JACINTH FOR BEING SUCH A GREAT GROUPMATE/CLASSMATE/FRIEND! :D
ReplyDeleteI thought you presented well (considering you had so little rest). :) and yes I agree that Caleb presented nicely despite the "sexy" voice he had. haha! and Johnny was a little too serious, maybe because people were expecting him to crack jokes. But well, we learn from mistakes. anyway, practice makes perfect!!! so we will all learn and improve and I'm sure all graduates (or most) of ES2007S will be good presenters in future. :)
